2008 Ducati Desmosedici RR Review |
|

It doesn't take long to be intimidated by the outrageous Desmosedici RR. If the stratospheric $72.5K price tag doesn't get you, the menacing mechanical cacophony upon start-up will. Observers are sucker-punched straight into the gut, and the beautiful racket portends an experience unlike any production streetbike in the world.
It's quite incredible that a manufacturer has offered such a repli-racer to the public. The D16RR is literally a MotoGP bike built for the street. And not those scrawny 800cc prototype racers currently on the grids – we're talking the big-gun near-liter-sized versions. As such, the RR carries a compact 989cc V-Four engine inside a version of Ducati’s trademark tubular-steel trellis frames.
The engine itself is a jewel. It features the same bore and stroke measurements (86.0mm x 42.56mm) as those on... [Read More]

2008 Oddball Literbikes: Benelli Tornado Tre 1130 vs. Buell 1125R vs. Ducati 1098s |

Us motonutz here at Motorcycle.com are, on occasion, prone to do or see things a little different than the rest of the wackos. Some would even say the inmates are running the asylum around here. Okay, you got us. We see the two-wheel world differently most every day.
This time we decided to create a new category of sportbikes. These machines aren't especially unusual in any way, but they don't fit the standard definition of their class in the strictest sense. Just when you thought it was safe to come out from behind your favorite dyno chart … It's time for another "literbike" war.
Behold! The Oddball Literbike Comparo! (Insert sound of thundering authoritative voice, or calliope music.)
We assembled three machines that go beyond the class-typical 998 or 999 cubic centimeters summed up... [Read More]

2009 Ducati Desmosedici Monster Concept |
|

Ducati's road-going MotoGP replica, the Desmosedici, is the raciest street-legal machine ever available to the public. Its GP-derived 990cc V-Four motor kicks out around 200 horsepower to the rear wheel, creating a top-end surge of power that inhales run-of-the-mill literbikes.
But behind the Desmosedici's aerodynamic bodywork is a riding position that is kindly referred to as "committed." The less-limber among us would describe its ergos as "torturous."
But what if you could get that gloriously devastating motor in a naked sportbike with upright ergos? Well, the Ducati factory briefly toyed with this fanciful idea, according to European contributor Tor Sagen who commissioned this photo rendering from Italian designer Luc1.

Ducati sets new sales record |
|
Jul 09, 2008 - 2:47 PM - by admin
|
June started with Troy Bayliss reaching speeds over 190 mph on the Miller Motorsports Park circuit, but his Ducati Xerox bike wasn’t the only 1098 that was going fast last month.
While other manufacturers have reported a slowdown in sales, Ducati North America set a new record in June with 1,410 units sold, thanks to the popularity of bikes such as the 1098, 848 and Monster 696.
"I am pleased to report that sales were strong across the model range and have been exceptional for the newly introduced Monster 696," says Jason Chinnock, national sales manager for Ducati North America. "The 696 demand outpaced our supply for the month otherwise the new record of 1,410 units would have been higher. We will be working hard to meet that demand in the coming months and with the motorcycle market reporting slower... [Read More]

2008 Middleweight Sport-Touring Shootout: BMW F800ST vs. Honda VFR800 Interceptor
We like sporty bikes at Motorcycle.com, but we're less fond of them when faced with the prospect of 10 hours in their saddles. But with reasonably sized bikes like the VFR800 and F800ST, we can tear up the twisties in relative comfort.

2008 Can-Am Spyder Review
Wanna stand out in a crowd as well as ride in comfort? Hop aboard the most stable touring machine in the stable - the manufacturer calls it truly "imPRESSive" - and we think you'll agree.

2008 Yamaha Morphous Review
The Morphous is a unique looking scooter that does not inspire indifference. It's got a super low 25.8-inch seat height and is shockingly long at 93.3 inches, which is just one inch shorter than a Harley-Davidson Softail Fat Boy.
