Hi everyone! I'm new to the board and have been trolling it for the last couple of weeks for some answers. As the header states, I'm reviving my Duc from 5 years of storage. But after weeks of troubleshooting I happen to think it's the fuel injectors that are giving me grief.

So first things first:

I removed the gas tank and replaced the fuel pump assembly with a brand new one. The gas had turned to varnish and clogged the old pump as well as deteriorated the hoses to a gummy like state.
I also cleaned out the tank and removed all deposits that had formed over the years. I also completely replace the fuel line. Oil has been changed out as well. I purchased a new battery and installed it, and now I'm into unchartered territory.... I turned the ignition on, all lights came on...I heard the whirring sound of the fuel pump priming and hit the starter button. The engine turned over but wouldn't start. I sprayed carb fluid into the engine and it fired right up for about 2 seconds before dying again. I'm guessing the engine is not getting gas.

So checked the kill switch...that was fine, and pulled the plugs to check for sparks. The plugs fired a nice white-blue spark. Then I went on to check the fuel injectors meanwhile checking to see if there was fuel pressure...and there is. I pulled the injectors and did a testfire into a glass bottle. Nothing. No gas came out of the injectors. :'(

I have a friend stopping over in an hour with a volt meter to test for juice to the injectors. I'm also looking at the igniter boxes as a possible problem.
Now I'm thinking that after all those years of sitting around, it's quite obvious that they can become plugged...so now what? How can I clean the injectors if that's the case? Can I detach the injectors and soak them in Seafoam? Has anyone tried this? I can always replace them..but I prefer that to be a last resort. Thanks in advance for your advise. I'll update in a couple hours.

I'm no expert on my Duc but I am also very willing to learn and do my own repairs. I just need to be pointed in the right direction

The injectors are most likely your problem, and i have no idea how you can fix them. did they buzz, click, or vibrate when you were trying to fill the bottle?

What i really wanted to say is that you should change the belts before running the bike too. after 5 years they are shot.

if it fires with a carb shot your getting ignition....just no fuel. belts would be needed for sure, and some injectors and i bet it starts right up. cold cranking a little won't hurt either to get some oil pushed back around! [thumbsup]

keep an eye on the fork seals too.

The injectors make no sound or vibration..and thanks for the heads up on the belts...that'll be next on the list. Think I found a video on CA-cycleworks.com on how to change the belt.

As to the forks...thats another area I have no experience in...but I'll look into it. Thanks for the responses!

OK...so I got the volt meter to check to see if there is current running to the injector...and there is. However...when I first push the starter button the meter only reads like .27...but once I released the starter button the voltage meter jumped up to 10.37 volts......this sounds quite off ??? What's going on?

There is a seller on eBay, Mr Injector or something like that. You can send him your injectors and he will clean and tune them, or you can send him the injector info and he can sell you instructions on how to clean them yourself. I have cleaned the injectors on my other bad habit (5.0 Mustang) and it's really a piece of cake. The hard part is removing them and having the courage to take them apart.

So can you share that information on how to take apart the fuel injector? I ordered another set but I still would want to take apart my old ones just to see (curious minds). Lemme know thanks!

Sounds like you're on the right track. You should be getting enough votage at the injector plugs to fire a test light. They actually make noid lights for testing this, but any test light will work. Plug it in across the plug and you should get a nice strong light where each injector pulse should be.

If you get a nice strong pulse, but still no noise out of the injectors I'd venture to say that your injectors are very gummed up (which I would say is the case anyway after sitting that long).

If the injectors are gummed up I'd remove them and drop them in a bath of injector cleaner (redline SI-1 or something similare). Let them sit there over night. The next day give the injectors some pulses of 12 volts to see if you can get them free'd up. If you get them free'd, then give them fuel pressure again and some pulses. See if you get some spray from the injectors. Once you get spray you should be able to get them cleaned out with some more injector cleaner in the tanks and a few miles of running. If they still don't click, maybe try it again. If that doesn't work, then I'd send them out to get them cleaned or order some new injectors.

OK..so I removed one fuel injector and placed it in a jar of Seafoam over night. I connected it to the electrical and fired it a couple times....IT CLICKED!! :D Last time it made no noise whatsoever! So this means that thes injectors still have a chance of working. I'm so pumped....now I wish I did both of the injectors at the same time...I would be listening to my Bella right now! . Thanks for the info Chromo! I'll update again tomorrow when I have both injectors done and installed.

You can also contact Doug or Fred at Silverback in St Paul. They have a really nice ANSI Injector tester and cleaner. They are fanatical about Ducs.
